The Italian National Guidelines for Legionellosis (Linee Guida 2015), approved by the State–Regions Conference, are the reference framework for prevention and control. Operators must perform a documented risk assessment, define a control plan and verify it through laboratory testing. Local health authorities (ASL/ULSS) may inspect documentation and request additional sampling.

We apply the ISO 11731:2017 culture method, the international reference for the enumeration of Legionella spp. in water. Confirmation and serogrouping are performed for L. pneumophila serogroup 1 and serogroups 2–14.

Yes. Cooling towers, evaporative condensers and humidification systems are sampled following the Italian guidelines and ISO 11731. We can also implement risk-based monitoring plans aligned with the European Working Group for Legionella Infections (ESGLI) recommendations.
The culture method requires up to 10 days of incubation. Standard reporting is therefore 7 to 10 working days. Where speed is critical, qPCR pre-screening can be added to detect contamination within 48 hours, with confirmation by culture.
